1798 S-175 R3 Small 8, Style II Hair F15+ Sharpness VF20 or a bit better but covered with extremely fine roughness, strongest in the field before the portrait. The only marks are a nick on the bust and a rim nick to the right. Rather glossy olive brown and chocolate. LOT 237 1798 S-176 R4 Small 8, Style II Hair VF20 Sharpness close to EF40 but there are several vertical scratches up from the bust into the field before the portrait and fine roughness covers the field behind the portrait. The field before the portrait was very lightly smoothed. The reverse is choice. Glossy light to medium chocolate brown with lighter brown on the reverse. EDS, Breen state I (maybe), with no trace of a crack up from the bust (but it may be hidden by one of those scratches and smoothing). Struck with the obverse slightly misaligned to K-7.5. Graded EF45 net VF20 and tied for CC#9 in the Bland census. Comes with a nice provenance. $2,000 Ex Henry C. Hines-Homer K.
