1798 S-173 R3 Small 8, Style II Hair VG8 Sharpness F12 with minor roughness on much of the planchet plus a patch of deeper corrosion with verdigris over the N in ONE. There are a few dull contact marks on the obverse, mostly in the field before the neck. Partly glossy steel and chocolate with reddish chocolate in protected areas on the obverse. MDS, Breen state V early, with a cud break from the left top of the E to the right top of the Y in LIBERTY plus a narrow rim cud over CA in AMERICA. Struck with the reverse rotated 55 degrees CCW. $350

LOT 235 1798 S-174 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair VF20 Sharpness near AU50 but cleaned and retoned glossy steel brown and chocolate with reddish tan in protected areas, particularly on the reverse. The obverse is attractive with smooth surfaces and no notable marks, but the reverse is not as nice. There is a strong cut on the rim at UNI that certainly catches your eye plus fine corrosion and verdigris on the upper left quadrant where the toning is a darker shade of reddish chocolate. E-MDS, Breen state II, with die clashmarks on both sides. Graded AU50 net VF25 by Noyes, his photo #24300. $1,950
