LOT 222 1798 S-166 R1 Large 8, Style II Hair VF25 Sharpness EF40 but there are a few areas of raised verdigris hidden under the glossy dark chocolate brown toning. The notable areas of roughness are in the field off the chin, left of L in LIBERTY, and below the E in AMERICA. No notable contact marks. MDS, Breen state IV, with die cracks on the reverse and small rim cuds at ST in STATES. Struck slightly off center to K-2 with the reverse rotated 35 degrees CCW relative to the normal head to-foot die orientation. A cent with sharp details and nice eye appeal in spite of the imperfect surfaces. $1,250

LOT 223 1798 S-166 R1 Large 8, Style II Hair G6 Slightly sharper with minor roughness in the fields and protected areas, particularly on the reverse where there are traces of shallow verdigris. A rim bruise at TY is the only notable mark. Slightly glossy steel brown with darker chocolate in protected areas. E-MDS, Breen state II, with a die crack on the reverse.
