1798/7 S-151 R3 Overdate Small 8 over 7 F12 The “Close Overdate.” Sharpness near VF20 but unevenly struck with significant weakness in the field before the portrait and the opposing area at AME into the wreath below. Otherwise the surfaces are mostly smooth and the devices are well struck. A small patch of fine roughness high on the cheek and some nicks at the ear are the other notable defects. Mostly glossy chocolate and olive brown. LDS, Breen state VIII, with die cracks and swelling on both sides. LOT 205 1798/7 S-151 R3 Overdate Small 8 over 7 G6 The “Close Overdate.” Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with lighter chocolate on the devices. Covered with tiny contact marks but there is no roughness. A chip in the center of the reverse is the only significant mark. LDS, Breen state VIII (but not quite the latest state) with a strong die crack to the top of the E in AMERICA and significant swelling on both sides. The date is strong and the overdate is obvious. $400
