1803 C-3 R2 MS62 Brown PCGS. Frosty light olive and steel brown with golden tan in many of the protected areas. A splash of darker olive brown toning under the L in LIBERTY and a thin vertical nick on the bust over the 3 in the date are the only notable marks. M-LDS, Manley state 4.0 late, Fuhrman state 4 late. The die polishing lines down to the left at various angles from IBE are fading away (weaker than on the previous lot), and a fine but clearly defined die crack that meanders from the rim to the top of the hair ribbon. Our grade is MS60. 1803 C-4 R4 XF40 NGC. Glossy medium brown and steel blending to light chocolate in protected areas. Smooth with minor marks including a tiny chip in the center of the cheek, some light nicks in the field over the hair ribbon, and a small nick on the right base of the E in AMERICA. MDS. The reverse is not upset and the die clashmarks on the reverse are clear. This is the plate coin for the variety in the Fuhrman reference on the half cents of 1800-1808. Our grade is VF25+.
