1008 Bruttium. Kaulonia. Silver Stater (29.5mm; 8.25 g), ca. 525-500 BC. Apollo advancing right, holding branch above his head, and extending his other arm upon which a small daimon, holding a branch in each hand, runs right, head reverted; kAVΛ behind, all within fancy dot-in-s cable border. Reverse: Incuse of the obverse; daimon in outline and no ethnic, rayed border. Noe Caulonia Group A, 5h; HN Italy 2035; SNG ANS 142; SNG München 1396; Gulbenkian 119. Excellent metal. Pleasing old collection toning. In NGC holder graded AU*; Strike 5/5; Surface 4/5; Fine Style.
