1188 Julius Caesar. Silver Denarius (4.07 g), Late spring-early summer 48 BC. Military mint traveling with Caesar. Oak-wreathed female head right, possibly Clementia, LII behind (‘52’ – Caesar’s age at the time of issue). Reverse: Gallic trophy, holding an oval shield and carnyx surmounted by a wolf’s head, secures at right, CAE-SAR. Crawford 452/2; Syd. 1009; RSC 18. Soft slate gray tone with iridescent blue highlights. In NGC holder graded Ch XF : Strike 5/5; Surface 4/5, edge marks.
