EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 200 1798 S-182 R-5 Small 8 VF25. 5 points sharper but there is a fine, old pin scratch from the bottom of the L in Liberty down to the throat that blends in perfectly with the toning. There is also a dull rim nick over the second T in STATES. Choice glossy chocolate brown on smooth, attractive surfaces. LDS, Breen state II. Called VF30 and tied for CC#4 by Bland. Noyes says VF35 net VF20 and tied for CC#5, his photo #23019. This is the plate coin for the variety in Early American Cents and Penny Whimsy. Comes with a great provenance.
LOT 203 1798 S-185 R-2 F15. Near VF sharpness but there is a minor lamination over T(ED). Glossy medium olive brown with scattered dark steel spots on the obverse, dark olive brown on the reverse. M-LDS, Breen state VI. Strong date and legends, smooth surfaces.

LOT 204 1798 S-186 R-2 VF25. VF35+ but there is microscopic roughness on the surfaces of both sides. Dark chocolate and charcoal tones. Free of notable marks. MDS, Breen state V.

LOT 201 1798 S-185 R-2 Small 8 VF30. 15 points sharper but covered with very fine granularity, just a touch stronger on the reverse. No verdigris, and the only marks are a horizontal nick on the top lip and a faint diagonal hairline scratch in the field off the bust tip. Glossy dark olive and steel browns. E-MDS, Breen state IV. The reverse is rotated 15 degrees CCW. Noyes says EF40 net VF25 and tied for CC#9, his photo #23213. Comes with a nice provenance.
LOT 205 1798 S-186 R-2 VF20. VF25+ but there is a chip stop the drapery and light hairline scratches on both sides, mostly on the portrait. Trivial marks scattered otherwise. Nicely recolored light brown with scattered puffs of dark steel and steel overtones. E-MDS, Breen state III. Smooth surfaces.

LOT 206 1798 S-186 R-2 VF20. Attractive light brown with light steel tones on the high points and devices. Only the most trivial of marks, a dull nick before the chin the best identifying. MDS, Breen state V. Pleasing, smooth surfaces.
LOT 202 1798 S-185 R-2 F15+. Chocolate and olive browns gently mottled with puffs of deeper steel. There are traces of dark crud in some protected areas, mostly on the reverse. MDS, Breen state V. Smooth, glossy surfaces.
