LOT 44 1852/1 K-8 R-4 $10 Gold NGC VF Details (Harshly Cleaned). VF20+ but cleaned and now a mellowed bronze gold tone. Made sometime in 1851 by Moffat and Humbert awaiting authorization for small denomination gold, then they altered the date by punching a 2 over the original 1. The die cracked early on in it’s life with no known survivors without the bisecting reverse crack. Listed on page 410 in the Redbook, there are between 50 and 75 examples known today. Our grade is F15. 3808111-002
