EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
CONDITION CENSUS N-5 EX NAFTZGER
LOT 138 1826 N-5 R2 PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Lustrous bluish steel and light chocolate brown with 15-20% of the slightly faded mint color remaining on the obverse, while the reverse only has faint traces of faded mint color. A small, dull nick on the jawline near the earlobe, an extremely thin diagonal nick right of star 2, and a short horizontal hairline under star 12 are the only notable marks. This cent has excellent eye appeal. LDS, die state g, with rim cud breaks from below star 4 to star 7. Called MS65 choice and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #21163. Our grade is MS63. 36823.64/13088145 Ex B. Max Mehl-T. James Clarke-Dr. James O. Sloss (privately) 9/1958-R. LOT 139 1826 N-6 R2 PCGS graded MS64 Brown, CAC Approved . Choice lustrous medium steel brown and light chocolate with faint hints of very faded mint color peeking through in a few protected places on the reverse. A gorgeous cent that has superb eye appeal. Sharply struck and satiny with full radials in all the stars, crisp hair details, and veins in the leaves of the wreath. The only notable mark, and it is faint, is a spot of slightly darker reddish brown toning tucked between the curl over the 6 and the truncation. M-LDS, die state h. The fields on the obverse are smooth and slightly reflective thanks to a fresh die polishing, and a rim cud reaches from star 6 to star 8. The repunching on the left side of the first A in AMERICA is clear. Clear, wide doubling (from die bounce or “machine doubling”) shows on parts of the hair at the back of the portrait under the hair bun. Graded MS65 Choice and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #33441. Bland says MS60+ and tied for CC#4. Our grade is MS63. A really nice cent. 36826.64/83251690
