Terry Denman Collection of Middle Dates Part 1

EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 122 1825 N-1 R4 EF45 . Sharpness close to AU55 and the eye appeal of this cent is excellent, but a glass show microscopic roughness on the cheek and around star 5 plus a speck of carbon in the field before the eye. Glossy light olive brown with frosty luster peeking through in protected areas, especially on the reverse. The only marks are a small, dull nick that flattens the tip of the nose plus several dull, light nicks in the field to the left. The reverse is choice. Sharply struck E-MDS, die state b, with the usual die crack through the base of the date and fine radial die flowlines that cover the fields. A very nice example of a scarce variety that is difficult to find in grades better than VF.

LOT 123 1825 N-2 R2 PCGS graded MS64 Brown, CAC Approved . Lustrous frosty steel and light chocolate brown, the tones slightly mottled. Satiny and very attractive with just a few microscopic contact marks including a tick on the right point of star 3 and another on the left foot of the N in CENT. Neither mark catches your eye. LDS, die state e, with a rim cud break under the date extending clockwise to star 3, and most of the cud extends slightly beyond the dentil tips into the field. In addition, the fine die crack up from the bottom of the reverse reaches through the wreath to the E in CENT. Struck slightly off center to K-4.5. Called MS60+ and tied for CC#5 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 and tied for CC#5, his photo #35418. Our grade is MS60 . 36787.64/13072544
