EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
THE NEWCOMB COLLECTION N-14
1820 N-14 R5 Large Date, PCGS graded AU58 . The obverse is glossy steel brown and chocolate mottled with lighter brown and golden tan; the reverse is glossy uniform steel brown. Mint frost shows in the fields and protected areas, particularly on the reverse. Smooth with just a few light contact marks including a few small nicks left of star 9 and a tick at the right foot of the T in CENT. Both dies were used extensively in earlier marriages, and this pairing didn’t last long enough to create significantly different die states. Graded VF35 and CC#4 in the Noyes and Bland census lists, Noyes photo #27750. Our grade is VF35. 36676.58/30808768 Ex Howard R. Newcomb, J. C. Morgenthau & Co., 5/16/1945:540-Floyd T.
