 NEWCOMB PLATE COIN FOR N-10

LOT 87 1820 N-10 R2 Large Date, PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Beautiful lustrous medium steel brown and light olive with underlying faded mint color showing through on 20% of the obverse. Additional peeps of faded mint red can be found in protected areas on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and the only notable marks are three tiny ticks right of the eye, a speck of darker toning (not carbon) in the field close under the chin, and another spot of darker toning under the left foot of the N in UNITED. M-LDS, die state b. The small dash between the F in OF and the adjacent A is weak but still visible and the center dot on the reverse is gone. Graded MS62 and CC#2 among the confirmed examples in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60, his photo #26990. Our grade is MS62+. This is the Newcomb plate coin for the variety in his 1944 reference (Plate III, Obverse 10-14, Reverse J). Comes with a great provenance, which is typical of so many cents in this remarkable collection. 36664.64/83244986

LOT 88 1820 N-11 R2 Large Date, PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Frosty steel brown with underlying mellowed red showing through in protected areas on the obverse; the fields and protected areas on the reverse are nearly covered with mellowed red. The obverse is a but more lustrous than the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and the only notable mark is a subtle splash of very slightly darker toning above star 6. MDS, die state b. The inner circle is no longer visible at stars 1-5 but the repunching under the T in CENT is clear,. Called MS60+ and tied for CC#1 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 net AU50 (reason for the deduction unknown) and tied for CC#2, his photo #21513. Our grade is MS60. 36667.64/13053251
