EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 EX PERKINS-PARTRICK 1785 “ROMAN HEAD”

LOT 59 1785 Connecticut Miller 2-A.4 R6- MBR, “Roman Head,” NGC graded F12. Partly glossy chocolate brown with lighter brown toning on the devices. Looks smooth but a glass reveals very fine roughness in protected areas. No marks or verdigris. Unevenly struck thanks to being struck slightly off center to K-5. The date and legends are clear except for ET. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Perkins-Partrick provenance are noted on the NGC label. 2048943-003

Ex Joseph Piervincenti 7/30/1993-George C. Perkins, Stack’s 1/12/2000:185-Donald G. Partrick, Heritage Auctions #63160:44003 (includes the Perkins and Partrick collection envelopes and both lot tickets)

LOT 60 1785 Connecticut Miller 3.1-L R4+ MBR, NGC graded VF30. Mostly glossy chocolate brown and steel with slightly lighter steel brown on the highpoints. Satiny and attractive. The only notable marks are a small planchet fissure on the tip of the bust and an even smaller one at the rim over the second N in CONNEC. The reverse is slightly misaligned to K-7 leaving most of the 1 in the date off the planchet, but the date is still easily readable. The legends are complete. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Merkin-Partrick provenance are noted on the NGC label. 2048943 007

LOT 61 1785 Connecticut Miller 3.2-L R4+ MBR VG8. Slightly sharper with a scuff of light scratches on the portrait, mostly on the neck, and a couple more on Britannia. All the scratches are blended nicely into the toning and the eye appeal of this piece is excellent for the grade. Glossy light to medium brown with darker chocolate brown toning in the fields and protected areas. The two-tone appearance accents the devices and adds to the eye appeal. The surfaces are smooth, void of any of the fissures that tend to plague these early coppers. The date is weak but readable and the legends are complete and clear. LDS. Weight 120.0 grains.
