TNA HOF Collection Pt 1
LOT 1249 1848 N-34 R5 F15+. Glossy medium brown. Smooth with minor marks, just moderately worn. A light vertical scratch through the B in LIBERTY is the only significant mark, and it is easily missed. MDS.
LOT 1250 1848 N-35 R2 AU55+. Choice glossy light brown with mint frost covering the fields and protected areas. Very attractive with just a hint of friction on the highpoints. No marks or other defects. M-LDS, die state c early. The lump between stars 3 & 4 is just starting to show and the bar in the dentils over the U is faint.
Ex Richard V. Punchard (in trade)-J. R. “Bob” Grellman, Jr. Collection-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes the Grellman collection envelope)
Ex Lester Merkin-James R. McGuigan 7/1990-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes the Merkin sales envelope)
ATTRACTIVE EARLY STATE N-36
LOT 1251 1848 N-36 R5 EF40. Glossy light to medium brown and chocolate with frost in protected areas. Lightly worn with trivial marks including a microscopic planchet lamination on the rim over the U (as struck). EDS, die state a, with a strong vertical line from the dentils to the bottom of the first 8. Both sides show the always present sinking and crumbling associated with the variety. Tied for CC#9 in the Grellman census.
Ex Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
LOT 1252 1848 N-37 R5- VF35. Ten points sharper but cleaned and expertly retoned glossy brown and chocolate with a hint of light olive. A small nick in the field off the chin is the only notable mark. EDS. All the fine die lines are sharp and the fields are smooth. The color could easily pass as original.
