TNA HOF Collection Pt 1

EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 1162 1847 N-23 R5 VF35. Slightly sharper but there is a rim bruise at the bottom of the reverse plus a very light rim bruise under star 11. Glossy light to medium brown with chocolate toning on the highpoints. Smooth and attractive for the grade in spite of the few marks. MDS, die state c early, with a very faint die crack through the top of ITED in addition to the earlier die cracks on that side. A nice example of this tough variety, and it comes with an impressive provenance. (Also contains a note from Howard Newcomb on the Blaisdell envelope.)

LOT 1163 1847 N-23 R5 VF30. Choice glossy light to medium brown with steel brown toning on the highpoints. Smooth with trivial marks including a small prick over star 10. LDS, die state e, with a small but clearly defined rim cud over the second S in STATES. Tied for CC#6 of the die state in the Grellman census. Comes with another very nice provenance.

Ex Henry C. Hines-Willard C. Blaisdell 9/1976 (via Del Bland)-R. E. “Ted” Naftzger, Jr. (via William C. Noyes)-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes the Blaisdell and Naftzger collection envelopes and a note from Howard Newcomb)

Ex Henry C. Hines-Willard C. Blaisdell 9/1976 (via Del Bland)-R. E. “Ted” Naftzger, Jr. 10/1983-John J. Nicholas-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes the Blaisdell, Naftzger, and Nicholas collection envelopes)

THE DOWNING-NAFTZGER N-24

LOT 1164 1847 N-24/25/9 R1 MS62+. Choice lustrous light olive and steel with traces of faded mint red showing in protected areas, mostly on the obverse. The surfaces are satiny and the details are very sharp. A beautiful cent. The only marks are a couple very light hairlines under the N in ONE. MDS, die state c early, with a very light die crack through the top of ME (Newcomb’s old #25). Another beautiful cent in this superior collection, and it comes with a great provenance.

Ex Homer K. Downing 5/4/1948-Willard C. Blaisdell 9/1976 (via Del Bland)-R. E. “Ted” Naftzger, Jr. (via William C. Noyes)-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes the Naftzger collection envelope)
