TNA HOF Collection Pt 1
EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
N-15 WITH RETAINED CUD
LOT 1121 1846 N-15 R4+ Hole in Ear VG7. Glossy brown and light olive with darker olive brown in protected areas. Smooth with no marks except for some scratches inside the wreath, basically an X that crosses under the N in ONE. The scratches are old and do not catch your eye. What makes this cent special is the die state, c late, with a partially raised retained cud break over UNITE. Only two are known with the full cud.

LOT 1123 1846 N-16 R5 AU50. Frosty tan and light brown with slightly darker brown on the highpoints. Sharp with light friction on the highpoints and trivial marks except for a light rim bruise on the rim cud. Otherwise this cent would rate a higher grade. Very rare M-LDS, die state c late, with a strong rim cud from above star 10 down to star 11 plus a die crack on the rim outlining an extension of the cud up to slightly above star 9. A sharp, attractive example of this very rare die state. CC#5 overall for the variety but CC#3 of those that have the cud and additional crack in the Grellman census. Comes with a great provenance.
LOT 1122 1846 N-16 R5 VF20. Five points sharper but there are small nicks on the obverse, none significant but more than you should have for the sharpness grade. A light rim bruise between stars 1 & 2 and a dull nick in the hair below the right side of star 7 are the notable marks. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with a small spot of darker olive brown under CE in CENT. Rare M-LDS, die state c, with a strong rim cud from above star 10 down to star 11.
