TNA HOF Collection Pt 1
EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
SECOND FINEST 1843 N-9
LOT 1049 1843 N-9 R2+ Petite Head, Repunched 843 MS63. Lustrous light steel brown with mellowed mint red covering 25% of the planchet. The only marks, and they are trivial, are a small planchet flake in the field before the mouth and a spot of darker brown toning (not carbon) nestled against the forelock. LDS, die state c. The earlier lump under the 1 is gone. There are several small but clear rim cud breaks on the obverse. The rim cud over UN is weak, barely visible, but the repunching on 843 is clear. A very nice cent, tied for CC#2 honors in the Grellman census.

LOT 1050 1843 N-9 R2+ Petite Head, Repunched 843 AU50. Glossy light brown with frost in the fields and protected areas. Attractive, just lightly worn on the devices. A small, shallow delamination on star 9 (as struck) is the only notable mark. LDS, die state c. Later than the preceding example; the repunching under 843 is dull and less obvious. Several narrow rim cuds show on the obverse, clearest at stars 1-2.
LOT 1052 1843 N-11 R2- Petite Head EF45. Slightly sharper but there is a dull nick close over star 9. Otherwise quite nice with attractive glossy light brown toning and excellent eye appeal. E-MDS, die state b. The reverse is uncracked and there is a rectangular depression at the inner curl.

LOT 1051 1843 N-10 R3 Petite Head AU58. Lustrous mix of tan, medium brown, and darker olive brown. Satiny and attractive with mint state eye appeal, but there is a hint of rub on the highest points of the devices. A speck of carbon nestled between the upper left points of star 11 is the only significant defect. LDS, die state b, with flowlined fields and two very tiny lumps under the N in CENT. CC#7 in the Grellman census. Removed from a PCGS holder graded MS62 Brown (PCGS label #405855.62/16210050 included, and it shows the attribution).
LOT 1053 1843 N-11 R2- Petite Head VF35. At least 5 points sharper but there is soft verdigris nestled into protected areas on the reverse. Glossy chocolate and olive with lighter brown in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth with minor marks including a small rim nick over the E in STATES. MDS, die state c early. A radial die crack from the dentils passes through the left side of the I of AMERICA and reaches the wreath (but not the T in CENT). The rectangular depression at the top of the inner curl is clear.
