PROOFLIKE 1843 N-4
LOT 1045 1843 N-4/13 R1 Petite Head, Reverse of 1844 MS64+. Highly lustrous light bluish steel and olive with underlying mellowed mint color in protected areas on the reverse. A gorgeous cent, nearly flawless. The best identifying marks are a small area of slightly lighter toning on the neck near the curl, a barely visible tick on the end of the chin, and a small nick hidden on the right serif of the second T in STATES. LDS, die state d. The fields are covered with microscopic die polishing lines that removed the earlier die lines and accumulated flowlines, and the die polishing left the fields hard and slightly reflective. This is Newcomb’s #13. A superior example of this popular “Redbook” variety.
