TNA HOF Collection Pt 1

EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

ROTATED REVERSE

LOT 1016 1840 N-12/13 R2 Small Date F15. Slightly sharper with a few too many light contact marks for the higher grade. Glossy light to medium brown. Minor marks including a speck of verdigris in the leaves under the second S in STATES. EDS, die state a. What makes this cent special is that the reverse is rotated 95 degrees clockwise. This is the first example of the variety seen by Grellman that has a clockwise rotation. All others of the variety seen with a rotated reverse were in the CCW direction from 80 to 170 degrees. The vast majority of the variety have a normally orientated reverse.

EQUAL SECOND FINEST

LOT 1017 1840 N-12/13 R2 Small Date MS60+. Lustrous light steel brown with traces of mint red on both sides, especially on the reverse. Sharp and satiny with very nice eye appeal. Just a few small marks including a pair of very light nicks over star 1, another right of star 4, and a microscopic chip on the chin. M-LDS, die state b. The lump under the 1 is gone (Newcomb’s #13). A very nice cent, tied for CC#2 of the variety in the Grellman census.
