EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

CHOICE 1825 N-6 EX NAFTZGER-WADLINGTON

LOT 161 1825 N-6 R3 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Glossy light olive and golden tan blending to darker olive brown in protected areas on the obverse. Lustrous and satiny with sharp details and great eye appeal. A spot of very fine carbon nestled under the ear lobe and a few tiny planchet chips on the cheek are the only defects, and they are easily missed. Looks choice mint state, and the PCGS grade attests to that, but there is a hint of friction on the hair over the eye. LDS, Grellman state c, with fine die cracks on both sides including the final one from the bust to the dentils left of the date. Our grade is AU58+ , very close to mint state. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 36796.64/30808990 Ex Garrett Collection, Bowers & Ruddy 11/28/1979:151 (as MS63)-R. E. Naftzger, Jr. (who graded it MS60+)-Chris McCawley, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 3/29/2001:1187 (as MS60)-W. M. “Jack” Wadlington (The Twin Leaf Collection), Stack’s Bowers 7/16/2015:2126 (as MS60) (includes the Naftzger collection envelope, the Wadlington collection notes, and all 3 lot tickets)

LOT 164 1825 N-8 R3 VF30. Frosty medium chocolate brown and steel with peeps of lighter brown in some of the protected areas. Smooth except for a patch of microscopic granularity around star 1 and another under star 13. The only contact marks are a short scratch and some small nicks over CENT. Nicely struck E-MDS, Grellman state a, with fine radial die flowlines from the dentils.

LOT 162 1825 N-6 R3 F12+. Slightly sharper with extremely fine roughness in the fields and protected areas. Only trivial marks and no verdigris. E-MDS.

Ex Doug Bird 9/15/1995 (as VF+, sales ticket included)

Ex Peter Sepelya 4/22/2017-Marc Padre, 2023 EAC Sale, Early Cents Auctions 6/24/2023:214 (includes the Sepelya envelope and EAC Sale lot ticket)

LOT 163 1825 N-7 R3 F15. Slightly sharper with smooth surfaces but there are a few contact marks. The notable marks are a few nicks in the field off the chin, a planchet flake right of the eye, and a dull nick on the leaf under the M. Later die state with a die crack right of the date and rim cud breaks on the right side of the obverse.

LOT 165 1825 N-8 R3 VF25. Glossy light olive brown and chocolate. Smooth and attractive, just lightly worn. Choice for the grade. E-MDS, Grellman state a, with light die flowlines in the fields.
