EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 90 1817 N-9 R2 VF30. Slightly sharper but there is a dull nick on the neck and a rim dent at ER in AMERICA. Otherwise choice. Glossy light chocolate with lighter brown in protected areas. Mint frost shows in protected areas on both sides. EDS.

LOT 93 1817 N-12 R3 PCGS graded AU53. Glossy medium brown with a subtle splash of slightly darker olive brown and steel toning on the obverse. Frosty golden tan faded down from mint color shows in protected areas on the reverse. The surfaces are smooth and there are only a few minor contact marks including a faint diagonal hairline scratch off the lower right point of star 6 and a long, thin nick above star 12. The reverse is choice. MDS, Grellman state d, with a bold connection between the tops of the 1 & 7 in the date in addition to the earlier cracks on the obverse. The devices on the right side of the obverse and opposing right side of the reverse are not fully struck, as always on this variety, because the dies were not in perfect axial alignment (the die faces were not perfectly parallel). A variety that is difficult to find in higher grades. Our grade is EF40. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 36583.53/39276144
