RARE DIE STATE S-234

LOT 320 1802 S-234 R3 VG8 Sharpness F15 but covered with microscopic granularity under slightly glossy dark olive brown toning. No verdigris but there are some contact marks including several rim nicks on both sides plus a rim dent at the R in LIBERTY. What makes this cent special is the die state, one that is not mentioned in the Breen reference for the variety. E-MDS, Breen state III early. There are irregular retained cud breaks (or possibly extremely deep clashmarks) at ERTY but no cud break at the B, only a crack from the left top of the B to the rim over the upright of the adjacent E. Graded F15 net VG8 by Bland. A piece for the die state specialist. $450
