1801 S-218 R5+ 3-Error Reverse VG10 Sharpness F15 or slightly better but covered with fine roughness on all but the highpoints, which are smooth. No verdigris and just a few notable contact marks including a thin diagonal nick off the middle curl, a small pit on the right foot of the Y in LIBERTY, a dull nick on the top of the O in ONE, and two small rim nicks over the second T in STATES. Very early die state, before Breen’s state I, with no swelling or die clashmarks at LIBERTY. Partly glossy steel brown and light chocolate. The date and legends are complete and clear, and all 3 of the die-cutter errors on the reverse are bold. Graded net VG10 and tied for CC#4 in the Bland census. Noyes says net VG8 and tied for CC#7, his photo #29936. $9,500
