LOT 280 1817 N-12 R3 F15 . Ten points sharper but there are small contact marks and specks of verdigris scattered over both sides. None of these defects is significant but there are too many to ignore. Glossy light to medium chocolate with lighter brown in protected areas on the obverse. MDS, Grellman state d, with a radial crack from star 1 to the dentils in addition to the earlier cracks on the obverse.
LOT 283 1817 N-17 R4 VG7 . Sharpness near VF20 but covered with fine to moderate roughness. No verdigris and the only mark is a small chip in the hair over BE. M-LDS, Grellman state h, with a sunken retained cud break at TATE.

LOT 281 1817 N-17 R4 F12 . Slightly sharper with a few too many nicks for the sharpness grade. A curved nick off the chin and a pin prick at the lower left point of star 5 can help identify this cent. Glossy light olive and steel brown with lighter brown highpoints. EDS, Grellman die state b, with a fine die crack connecting the bottoms of D-ST. The date and legends are strong and the reverse is slightly misaligned to K-3.5 (as usual for the early die state).
LOT 284 1818 N-4 R4+ VG8 . Sharpness F12 but dark and covered with very fine porosity. No verdigris and the highpoints are nearly smooth. Slightly glossy dark steel and olive brown with lighter steel brown on some of the highpoints. M-LDS, Grellman state c. The crack through star 3 is strong and the O in ONE is gone.
