CONDITION CENSUS 1817 N-7 NO MOUSE
LOT 276 1817 N-7 R7 (for the die state) F15 . Slightly sharper, particularly on the reverse, but covered with extremely faint roughness. Slightly glossy dark steel and olive brown. No verdigris and essentially void of marks. A tiny rim nick at star 5 and a small nick-like planchet chip left of the lowest curl are the only marks. Extremely rare early die state before the “Mouse” break on top of the head below star 8. Only 8 examples without the Mouse break are known to us. This piece rivals the finest of that small group, and several of them have significant defects and/or surface impairments. The reverse is slightly misaligned to K-1.5, as always for this die state, causing weakness at OF. The lower half of the reverse, which is well struck, has solid VF20 sharpness. A very important piece for the collector of die states.
LOT 277 Trio of 1817 Cents with Mouse Break . Includes N-7 LDS VG8 and AG3 and N-8 LDS Fair-2 with a fully formed “Finger Mouse.” Nothing special but the 3 “mice” are clear. Lot of 3 coins.
LOT 278 Trio of Cents, 1817-1830, grading Good to Fine . Average grade is VG. Includes 1817 N-8, 1828 N-2, and 1830 N-8. All are attractive glossy brown and chocolate with a clear date and legends. Lot of 3 coins.
