EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 203 1797 S-124 R5+ G5 . Sharpness VG10 or slightly better but lightly corroded with numerous patches of moderate porosity on the obverse. There are areas of shallow reddish brown scale on the obverse and a few specks of similar scale on the reverse. The notable contact marks are a few thin scratches at the 17 in the date and others at F-A. Slightly glossy chocolate and olive with the reddish brown scale mixed in on the obverse. The date and legends are complete and clear except for weakness at the 17 and NE in ONE (the latter due to swelling in the center of the reverse). A variety that is unknown in an EAC grade better than F15 with most VG or lower.

TERMINAL STATE S-125

LOT 204 1797 S-125 R5 AG3 . Several points sharper but the devices on the obverse are severely weakened by heavy swelling associated with the latest die state of the variety. LDS, Breen state III late. Most of the planchet is reasonably smooth but there are patches of reddish corrosion and scale on both sides, particularly on the neck. Mostly glossy brown and reddish chocolate.

Ex Rod Widok 4/25/2013-Shawn Yancey

LOT 205 1797 S-126 R3 VG10 . Choice glossy light to medium brown blending to chocolate in protected areas. Smooth with only trivial marks. A small tick in the field before the eye is a good identifying mark. E-MDS, Breen state III early, with a very light die crack from the dentils to the throat. A premium example for the grade.

LOT 206 1797 S-126 R3 G4 . A point sharper but there are some rim bruises including one left of the hair ribbon and a pair of planchet chips on the lower part of the portrait. Rather glossy medium chocolate brown. The date and LIBERTY are strong. M-LDS, Breen state V, with a dull but strong die crack to the throat.
