EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

COPY OF 1831 ORIGINAL

LOT 147 1811 C-2 R3 G6+ . Glossy medium chocolate brown with lighter brown toning on the devices. No roughness or notable marks, just worn. EDS. The date and legends are clear except for the usual weakness along the left edge of the reverse.

LOT 148 1811 C-2 R3 G4 . Glossy olive brown and chocolate with lighter brown on the devices. Microscopic roughness and minor marks; overall decent for the grade with a clear date.

LOT 151 1831 Proof Original Breen 1-A R7- Cast Copy F15 . Medium brown and light chocolate. There is no trace of a seam on the edge but the texture screams cast copy. No defects other than some crud, particularly on the edge.

From the Jack Beymer Collection

LOT 149 1825 C-2 R1 AU50 . Frosty chocolate brown with lighter brown and tan in protected areas, especially on the reverse. A small spot of fine carbon is nestled in the hair above the ear and a tiny rim nick affects the dentils left of the date. Otherwise this half cent is choice and the eye appeal is very nice. Sharply struck EDS, Manley state 1.0 early. The reverse die clashmarks of the earlier 25C1 die marriage are present, including the “egg” lump between the F and A (Manley says these were lapped off the die before this marriage, but a few early examples showing the clashmarks have come to light since his 1998 reference was published). Undoubtedly a rare die state.
