UNIQUE COUNTERSTAMPED 1786 MILLER 1-A
LOT 509 1786 Connecticut Miller 1-A R4+ Mailed Bust Right, ETLIB INDE F15 . Glossy light brown with olive brown in protected areas. Smooth and quite nice. Nicely struck on a choice planchet with a strong date and full legends. A great example of the Small Head Connecticut variety but extra special due to the CAST STEEL counterstamp. The CAST STEEL stamp was used as a guarantee of quality goods. It was used in the United States and England. While several dozen are known on US Large Cents and a few early type coins, only two are known on a US Colonial coin: one New Jersey Cent and this Connecticut copper. Brunk # C-270. An esoteric prize that comes with great eye appeal. Weight 123.1 grains.
