EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 500 1785 Connecticut Miller 3.1-A.3 R4 Mailed Bust Right VF20 . Sharpness EF40 but covered with light to moderate roughness. No verdigris but there are some planchet flaws including two fissures left of the head, a couple thin fissures from the mouth to the rim at NEC, and a thin diagonal fissure across the reverse. A rim dent over the O in in AUCTORI and a dent on the chest of the seated figure are the notable contact marks. The bottom of the date is off the planchet but it is readable and the legends are complete. The portrait is sharp. Weight 137.6 grains.

LOT 503 1785 Connecticut Miller 3.1-L R4+ Mailed Bust Right G6 . Brown and olive with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. Covered with very fine roughness but there is no verdigris. The only mark is a minor rim bruise under the 8 in the date. The date is weak but readable and the legends are reasonably clear. Later die state with swelling on the obverse. Weight 133.2 grains.

LOT 504 1785 Connecticut Miller 3.4-F.1 R3 Mailed Bust Right VG10 . Slightly sharper with two light scratches on the portrait and one on the seated figure. The scratches are old and very light, and the eye appeal of this piece is nice for the grade. Glossy chocolate with steel brown toning on the devices. There is a small planchet flake on the 8 in the date and a couple more on the reverse but overall the planchet is smooth. The date is readable as are most of the legends. Weight 142.2 grains.

LOT 501 1785 Connecticut Miller 3.1-A.3 R4 Mailed Bust Right VG10 . Ten points sharper but covered with fine roughness. Mostly glossy light olive and brown with dark scale in some of the protected areas. The only notable planchet flaw is a shallow fissure in the field before the neck. The date is weak but readable. Weight 134.2 grains.

LOT 502 1785 Connecticut Miller 3.1-L R4+ Mailed Bust Right NGC graded VF20 . Partly glossy chocolate brown with lighter brown toning on the devices. Reasonably smooth with no signs of corrosion. The only real defect is a planchet void at TO in AUCTORI and the opposing D in INDE (as struck). The date and legends are all clear. Sharpness looks a bit better than VF20 but the planchet defect counts for something. Our grade is consistent with the NGC assessment. Weight 136.7 grains. The Norweb/Picker provenance is noted on the NGC label. Certificate #2693638-001

LOT 505 1785 Connecticut Miller 3.5-B R5+ Mailed Bust Right F15+ . Dark olive brown with lighter brown toning on the highpoints. Looks smooth to the unaided eye but a glass reveals extremely fine granularity in the fields and protected areas. No verdigris. A tiny planchet fissure at the second C in CONNEC is the only notable mark. The date and legends are not strong but everything is readable. Late die state with obvious swelling at the B in LIB. Weight 131.1 grains.
