EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 204 1787 Connecticut Miller 37.13-HH R5 DBL, PCGS graded EF45 . An ET LIR variety. Mostly glossy light olive and medium brown with darker mahogany in protected areas near the rim. Most of the planchet is smooth but the mahogany areas are covered with fine roughness and microscopic verdigris. A similar mahogany patch shows at the waist of the seated figure. Sharply struck with minor chipping in the centers. This piece has nice eye appeal in spite of the imperfect surfaces. Superior to the Perkins and Taylor examples, comparable to Ford. The attribution and Twin Leaf provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 687275.45/36650732

Ex Steven L. Tanenbaum & Tom Rinaldo 4/8/2000-W. M. “Jack” Wadlington (the Twin Leaf Collection)-the Robert M. Martin Collection-the Copper Mountain Collection (includes the Tanenbaum/Rinaldo sales envelope and Wadlington collection note)

LOT 206 1787 Connecticut Miller 43.1-Y R2 DBL, PCGS graded VF35 . A CONNFC variety. Mostly glossy chocolate brown and steel with lighter steel brown toning on the highpoints. Most of the planchet is smooth but there are patches of fine erosion, mostly on the obverse. The most-notable flaws are two fissures at the dentils left of the top of the portrait. The planchet is not quite round and the strike is off center to K-4. The date and CONNFC error are bold. Weight 148.9 grains. The attribution and Robert M. Martin Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 687374.35/38152235

Ex Norman Bryant (possible) 8/1971-Q. David Bowers Alan Kessler, Pine Tree Auction Company, 1975 EAC Sale 2/15/1975:372-Robert M. Martin Collection, Stack’s Bowers 11/15/2019:5282-the Copper Mountain Collection

LOT 205 1787 Connecticut Miller 38-GG R4 DBL VF20 . Technical grade at least EF40 and choice where properly struck, but more than a third of the planchet was too thin to receive a proper impression from the dies. The unstruck portion shows the usual pre-striking chipping and flaws while the properly struck portion is smooth with just a few small flaws, the notable one being a void between the tops of the 7 & 8 in the date. There are a few rim bruises on both sides including two under the 87. Frosty medium brown. Nicely centered with a strong date and legends where the dies actually made it to the planchet. The AUCIORI error is especially bold. Weight 142.0 grains.

Ex Neil Rothschild Collection, Early Cents Auctions 1/23/2021:201 (includes the Rothschild collection envelope and lot ticket)
