EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 197 1787 Connecticut Miller 37.4-k.1 R3 DBL VF25+ . Choice medium brown and light chocolate. The surfaces are smooth and void of contact marks, just lightly worn. The dies are worn with die “spalling” roughness around the legends, especially at CONNEC, and obvious swelling on the obverse (as always on this variety). Nearly centered on the planchet with a strong date and clear legends. A nice mid-grade example, near the lower end of the condition census for the variety. Weight 157.0 grains.
LOT 198 1787 Connecticut Miller 37.4-k.1 R3 DBL, PCGS graded VF20 . Glossy light steel brown and golden tan. Mostly smooth but there are some of the usual small planchet fissures, mostly in the center of the obverse and lower part of the seated figure. Earlier die state than the preceding lot with swelling on the obverse but far less “spalling” roughness around the legends. The date is strong and the legends are clear. The attribution and Twin Leaf provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 687368.20/36650758

LOT 199 1787 Connecticut Miller 37.5-e R5 DBL, PCGS graded VF30 . Glossy steel brown and light chocolate. The centers are covered with planchet chips but the fields are perfectly smooth with hard surfaces suggesting the dies were new. There is a speck of verdigris over the second N in CONNEC and an incomplete planchet cutter impression from K-6 to K-9 on the reverse. Struck slightly off center to K-5.5 leaving the top of the head of the seated figure off the planchet. Otherwise the date and legends are complete and strong. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 687370.30/40483194
THE MILLER-FORD M.37.8-K.2
Ex the Copper Mountain Collection
LOT 200 1787 Connecticut Miller 37.8-k.2 R5 DBL, PCGS graded XF45 . Glossy reddish chocolate brown and steel. Lightly burnished and nicely retoned. Looks smooth but there are tiny chips scattered over the fields and protected areas and a fine fissure through the hand on the staff. A pair of fine scratches in the field before the chin are the notable contact marks, but they are not distracting. Nicely centered with the reverse rotated 100 degrees CCW. Weight 144.1 grains. An attractive, nicely detailed example in spite of the flaws, and it comes with a great provenance. The attribution and Robert M. Martin Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 687269.45/38406796
