EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 136 1787 Connecticut Miller 18-g.1 R6 DBL VF25+ . Choice glossy chocolate brown with lighter brown toning on the highpoints. The surfaces are smooth with just a few small defects including a couple tiny fissures at the rim on the top of the obverse and a small chip out of the rim under the second 7 (all as struck). Nicely centered with a strong date and legends. Intermediate die state with minor swelling in the field off the chin. A very nice mid-grade example of this tough variety. Weight 141.6 grains.

Ex Anthony J. Terranova-Neil Rothschild Collection, Early Cents Auctions 1/23/2021:82-Kevin Vinton (includes the Terranova envelope and lot ticket)

LOT 138 1787 Connecticut Miller 28-o R6- DBL, PCGS graded VF20 . Glossy light brown and mahogany with puffs of lighter golden brown on both sides. Probably retoned but the eye appeal is nice. The surfaces are smooth except for minor chipping on the cheek and the lower part of the seated figure. The only notable mark is a light scratch on the legs, and it does not catch your eye. Softly struck on the face, as usual on this variety, and off center to the top leaving most of the date and parts of the legend off the planchet. The lack of a complete date is normal for the variety; the Ford, Taylor, and Perkins examples had a similar problem. A nice example of this tough variety. Weight 130.1 grains. The attribution and Twin Leaf provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 685376.20/36053459

LOT 137 1787 Connecticut Miller 19-g.4 R3 DBL VF20 . Glossy light olive and medium brown with darker olive brown in protected areas. Smooth with nice eye appeal. The only notable mark is a sharp horizontal nick on the top of the head of the seated figure. LDS with strong swelling that obliterates the upper part of the date. Weight 146.9 grains. Ex Robert Lomprey, Jr., 2006 C-4 Sale, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 12/2/2006:215-2009 C-4 Sale, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 11/21/2009:109 (includes both lot tickets)

LOT 140 1787 Connecticut Miller 31.1-r.4 R2 DBL, PCGS graded XF40 . Glossy medium brown with some darker chocolate and mahogany in protected areas. Smooth except for minor chipping on the face and opposing area on the lower part of the seated figure. No contact marks or corrosion, just traces of waxy verdigris in protected areas behind the portrait. A common variety but quite attractive. The attribution and Robert M. Martin Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 685383.40/38406700
