EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 132 1787 Connecticut Miller 15-F R3 MBL, PCGS graded VF20 . Frosty golden tan and light olive. The surfaces are covered with fine granularity and there are some planchet fissures including a chip out of the edge at the bust and another fine one that meanders through the head on the obverse. No verdigris but there is a rim nick just left of the date. The date is strong and the legends are mostly clear with the top of LIB slightly off the planchet. Certification Number 686371.20/82657009

POSSIBLE FINEST “FATAL BREAK” 1787 MILLER 15-S
LOT 133 1787 Connecticut Miller 15-S R5+ MBL AU50 . A CONNECT variety. Frosty medium brown and light chocolate. The fields are lustrous in many of the protected areas and the eye appeal of this piece is excellent. There is no hint of corrosion, only small planchet fissures, strongest at TO in AUCTORI. No contact marks, just very light wear on the devices. Late die state with a very large and quite deep cud break on the right side of the reverse, the so-called “Fatal Break” die state. The opposing NE in CONNECT are weak because the cud consumed so much of the planchet metal. This piece is far superior to the Miller-Ford and the Taylor Perkins examples, clearly a candidate for finest known honors. Removed from a PCGS holder graded AU55+ (special PCGS label #685109.55+/46983565 included, and it shows the attribution and Syd Martin collection provenance). Weight 149.7 grains.
