EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LARGE CENTS

LOT 360 Quartet of Cents, 1795-1803 . Includes 1795 S-76b R1 Plain Edge Fair-2+, 1800 (unattributed) G5 net Fair-2 for roughness, 1803 S-245 R3 LDS with cud at RICA G4, and 1803 S-260 R1 Large Fraction VG8 net G6 for a scuff on the neck. All have a readable date. Lot of 4 coins.

LOT 357 1794 S-43 R2 NGC VF Details, Tooled . Glossy chocolate brown and steel. Nicely detailed but the obverse was lightly burnished, strongest in the field below the cap where a collection of small pits was partially effaced. A nick on the rim over the second T in STATES can help identify this cent. The eye appeal of this cent is better than it sounds because the color is attractive and the defects do not catch your eye. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with a strong die crack through the U in UNITED into the wreath. Our grade is VF20+ sharpness net F12. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Certification Number 6685628-003

LOT 361 1796 S-92 R3 Draped Bust VG7 . Sharpness VF25 but covered with fine to moderate roughness. No marks or verdigris. Lightly cleaned with tan and light brown on the highpoints and chocolate in protected areas. Probably another metal detector find but with decent eye appeal.

LOT 358 1794 S-44 R1 VG7 . Sharpness VF35 but covered with uniform moderate granularity. No verdigris or marks and very little actual wear on the devices. Nicely struck and well centered. Medium chocolate brown with lighter brown highpoints. M-LDS with die cracks on both sides. A metal detector find.

LOT 362 1796 S-100 R5 Draped Bust G5 . Sharpness near F12 but covered with fine roughness. No verdigris and the only significant mark is a flake or tiny dent in the hair left of the earlobe. Olive brown with lighter brown highpoints. The date is complete and easily readable.

LOT 359 1794 S-67 R3 Head of 1795 G5 . Sharpness at least VG10 but covered with moderate roughness under a partly glossy dark olive brown patina. The roughness is strongest on the reverse. A shallow planchet flake at the head under the B in LIBERTY is the best identifying mark. The date is bold. Possibly a metal detector find.
