FRED BORCHERDT’S HALL OF FAME COLLECTION 1793-1814 CENTS

LOT 359 1812 S-289 R1 Large Date PCGS graded AU50 . An attractive cent with smooth surfaces and light wear on the devices, but it has been expertly retoned. Glossy brown and light chocolate with flowline luster in the fields and protected areas. Essentially void of marks with really nice eye appeal. A tiny tick on the rim at star 5 can help identify this cent. LDS, Breen state IV, with flowlined fields and crumbling on the front edge of the neck. Our grade is VF30. 36508.50/61468292

LOT 360 1812 S-290 R1 Small Date PCGS graded MS63 Brown . Lustrous tan mixed with wisps of medium brown and light chocolate. A mint state cent with no friction and nice eye appeal, but there are a few spots of very fine verdigris on the obverse: one right of the date, one over the bust, and another over star 3. It takes a strong glass to see the verdigris in those spots. The only notable contact marks are three tiny ticks off the end of the bust. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with flowlined fields and dull lap stone die marks at ITED and STA, but the terminal rim cud at TE in UNITED has not formed. Graded MS60 and tied for CC#8 in the Bland census. Noyes says AU55 and tied for CC#9, his photo #29053. Our grade is MS60 net AU55. 36499.63/61275958
