FRED BORCHERDT’S HALL OF FAME COLLECTION 1793-1814 CENTS

FINEST TERMINAL S-238

LOT 301 1802 S-238 R4 F12 . Sharper than the assigned grade, particularly on the reverse, but there are traces of silver (or some other light metal) plating in protected areas on the reverse. The rest of the planchet is glossy dark olive brown and steel. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable mark is a tiny nick or chip high on the neck. Extremely rare TDS, Breen state V, with a strong rim cud at TATE. This is the finest of only 5 known with this cud break. Graded VF25 net VG10 in the Noyes census, his photo #39478. Another unsurpassed example of a significant die state in this collection.
