EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
TERMINAL S-188
LOT 240 1799/8 S-188 R4 Overdate 9 over 8, PCGS P/FR Detail, Environmental Damage . Steel and olive brown with a hint of gloss, but both sides are covered with uniform fine to moderate porosity. No verdigris and the only mark is a very light rim bruise off the bust. Not a pretty cent, but the portrait and LIBERTY are clear and about a third of the devices on the reverse can be made out. And with some imagination you can sense a bit of the date. But it takes no imagination to see the massive die crack through RTY to the rim off the end of the nose. This is the strongest version of the crack seen among the 9 cracked examples known. Graded Basal State-1 by both Bland and Noyes, but this piece is clearly superior to the other two that are graded at that same level. Our grade is Fair-2. 36131.97/52085730
