EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 237 1798 S-187 R1 Small 8, Style II Hair AU50 . Choice frosty golden tan with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. Essentially flawless with just a light touch of friction on the devices. A beautiful cent, essentially flawless. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with die cracks on both sides and a cud break at the rim before the nose. Graded AU50 net EF45 (not a clue why there is a deduction) and tied for CC#7 in the Noyes census, his photo #28907. A premium example of a neat die state.

EXTREMELY RARE 1798 NC-1
LOT 238 1798 NC-1 R7 Style I Hair, Small 8 G5 . A sharp cent with very little actual wear, but it is covered with moderate to strong corrosion. There are no marks or traces of verdigris, and the toning is a surprisingly attractive and slightly glossy light chocolate brown. The date and legends are complete and clear, even strong. EDS, Breen state I, before the obverse die cracked. Only 8 examples are known, and this is certainly one of the most sharply detailed. Tied for CC#6 based on a photo comparison.
