EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

SHARP S-152 OVERDATE

LOT 193 1798/7 S-152 R2 Overdate Large 8 over 7, PCGS AU Detail, Cleaned . A sharp cent that shows very little wear, but it was lightly cleaned and nicely retoned glossy chocolate brown and steel blending to darker chocolate in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and the only marks are a thin planchet fissure near the rim left of the L and a couple small nicks on the neck into the hair. The planchet fissure reaches around to the I in UNITED, but it is barely visible there. M-LDS, Breen state III, with a clear radial die crack from the rim to the hair near the curl under the hair ribbon. Struck with the obverse die slightly misaligned to the top. Graded AU55 net EF45 and CC#3 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF45 net VF30 and tied for CC#5, his photo #27513. Our grade is EF45 sharpness net VF35. An impressive example of the variety in spite of the retoning. 35999.92/52085736
