EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 CHOICE RED & BROWN

LOT 855 1850 N-12 R1 MS64. Lustrous mint red fading to steel brown with about 30% of both sides showing faded mint color. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has great eye appeal. The only marks are a barely visible dull tick on the jaw and a tiny speck of carbon nestled between two dentils under the end of the wreath stem. M-LDS, die state b early. Most of the points on the reverse are gone but a tiny nub of the point from the left top of the C in CENT still shows. The tiny cud break or lump on the rim right of the D in UNITED is clear. A really nice cent.

LOT 856 1850 N-18 R4 VF30+. Sharpness EF40 but there is a speck of carbon hidden on the hair bun and some small nicks scattered over both sides. The notable contact marks are a dull nick close over the hair bun and a minor rim nick under star 12. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. EDS, die state a. The die lines at the dentils over star 7 are sharp.

 CHOICE RED & BROWN

LOT 857 1850 N-21/10 R2 MS64. Lustrous mint red fading to light bluish steel brown with about a third of the red remaining, mostly on the reverse. Satiny and choice. The only marks are some of the usual microscopic specks of darker toning scattered over both sides--but you need a glass to see them. LDS, die state c, with rim cud breaks at TES and F-A (Newcomb’s old #10). Most likely from the hoard of mint state examples that has been widely disbursed for decades, but this is an especially nice one.
