EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
CHOICE RED & BROWN N-8
LOT 730 1856 N-8 R3+ Upright 5 MS63+. Lustrous mint red fading to light bluish steel brown and olive with about a third of the planchet showing mint color, mostly on the obverse. The red on the obverse is relatively bright while the red on the reverse is more faded. The only mark is a small but obvious chip out of the rim just right of the date. M-LDS, die state b late, with a fine die crack from the dentils above the left side of the M passing through MERIC reaching the base of the A. An attractive frosty cent.

LOT 732 1856 N-10 R1 Upright 5 PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved. Attractive light steel brown with underlying very faded mint red in some of the protected areas, mostly on the reverse. The surfaces are lustrous and covered with satiny mint frost, and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. Essentially flawless. The best identifying marks are a very tiny speck of carbon in the field close off the tip of the nose, another in the field right of the top of the hair bun, and a very tiny planchet flake in the field right of star 2, as struck. E-MDS, die state b. The fine die line up from the dentils left of the date is gone but the lines from the dentils over the R in AMERICA are still clear. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#7 in the Grellman census. Comes with a very nice provenance. The attribution and Iskra Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. (The holder is scuffed, especially on the reverse.) 403961.65/81102428
LOT 731 1856 N-9 R3+ Upright 5 MS60. Glossy light olive and brown blending to medium olive in protected areas. Nicely struck with excellent eye appeal and trivial marks. A speck of darker toning over star 2 can help identify this cent. M-LDS, die state c early, with die cracks on the reverse, but the final crack from the A to the end of the wreath stem has not formed. Tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census.
