Fred 2 Book
LOT 638 1853 N-18 R1 AU50+. Attractive glossy medium brown with specks of darker olive toning, mostly on the obverse. Some of the spots contain traces of very shallow verdigris, but it takes a glass to see that. EDS, die state a. The die lines from the back of the portrait are strong and the two dashes under the 8 are clear.
LOT 637 1853 N-17 R2 Repunched 1 MS60. Frosty light olive and light brown with subtle overtones of light bluish steel. Satiny mint luster covers this cent and the eye appeal is very nice. A speck of reddish brown toning under star 5 and some weakness in the dentils at star 13 (as struck) are the best identifying marks. M-LDS, die state b. The die lines from the dentils below the date and star 1 are gone, but the dash left of the base of the 1 remains visible.

RED & BROWN N-18
LOT 639 1853 N-18 R1 MS62+. Frosty mint red mellowing to light steel brown with more than a third of the mint color remaining. The only notable flaws are a very light scuff in the field before the neck and an even lighter one in the field over the left side of star 12. These scuffs are microscopic. Otherwise this cent is choice. MDS, die state b. The die lines from the back of the portrait are gone but the dashes under the 8 remain visible.

M-LDS, die state c early. The repunching under the 8 & 5 is gone and both dies are properly aligned.
