LOT 2

(1663-1672) St. Patrick Farthing (New Jersey) Breen-212, Griffee 31-5/3e G6 . Sharpness VF20 where properly struck but the impression is uneven, weak at the bottoms but strong elsewhere. Most of the devices are clear. The brass splasher is toned with traces of brighter brassy color remaining, mostly off to the right side of the crown. Griffee knew of 4 examples of this variety. Weight 95.1 grains.

1776 Machin’s Mills Vlack 6-76A, W-7790, Large Date R4+ VF30 . Rather glossy dark olive brown with underlying uniform fine granularity that covers the planchet. No verdigris and the only marks are a light nick in the hair under the second G in GEORGIVS, a couple small ticks on the lower part of the seated figure, and a small nick under the B in BRITAN. Sharply struck and nicely centered on the planchet. The date and legends are bold. Not perfect but certainly one of the finer examples known of this tough variety. Weight 120.8 grains.

From the Erik Schneckloth Collection

1785 Nova Constellatio Crosby 3-B R1 VF25 . Variety with Pointed Rays. Choice glossy brown and light chocolate. Smooth with trivial marks and light wear. A small chip out of the rim over the S in JUSTITIA is a good identifying mark. Weight 109.2 grains.

LOT 3

1788 Vermont Ryder-16 R1 VG10 . Choice glossy tan and light brown on the devices blending to light chocolate in protected areas. Smooth and virtually flawless, just worn. A minor planchet chip at the eye and a tiny one under the shield are the only marks, both as struck. The date is readable and the legends are strong. MDS before the obverse die cracked. Minor swelling in the center of the reverse weakens those central details. Weight 103.9 grains.
