COLONIALS

LOT 604 1794 C-9 Electrotype Copy F12. Sharpness around VF25 with some contact marks. Traces of the undertype base metal show through, especially on the reverse. A decent but imperfect electrotype copy.

LOT 600 1787 Massachusetts Half Cent Ryder 2-A R3 AG3+. The obverse is AG3 but the reverse is stronger, perhaps G5. Faint granularity covers the fields and protected areas but the highpoints are smooth. No notable marks or verdigris, just wear. Chocolate brown with lighter brown on the devices. Weight 67.2 grains.

LOT 605 1795 C-1 R2 Lettered Edge G5. Several points sharper but covered with very fine roughness on all but the highpoints. Slightly glossy dark olive brown and steel. No verdigris and the only contact marks are some minor rim bruises, mostly on the lower half of the reverse. The major flaw is a mint-made chip out of the planchet under the 95 (as struck). The date and legends are complete and easily readable, and the edge lettering is complete except for a few letters affected by the planchet chip. Weight 96.7 grains.

LOT 601 1788 Massachusetts Cent Ryder 6-N R2+ VG7. Several points sharper but covered with very fine roughness mixed with small contact marks. Most of the contact marks are on the reverse (eagle side). No verdigris. Tan with darker steel brown on the highpoints. The date and legends are clear. Weight 154.8 grains.

Ex 2019 EAC Sale, lot 26 (lot ticket included)

LOT 606 1796 C-1 No Pole, Electrotype Copy VG10. Glossy reddish brown and steel. A chip out of the rim left of the fraction and a scratch through AME are the only significant marks. The scratch appears to have been present on the original example that was used to make this copy. A decent hole filler.

LOT 602 1788 Massachusetts Cent Ryder 10-L R2 VG7. Several points sharper but recolored glossy reddish steel brown. There are a few rim bruises on both sides but no corrosion or verdigris. The date and legends are clear. Weight 155.5 grains.

LOT 607 1800 C-1 R2 VG8+. Slightly sharper but there are some light scratches on the portrait and a nick under the chin. Glossy medium brown and chocolate. No roughness. MDS.

LOT 603 1786 New Jersey Maris 14-J R1 VG10. Glossy light to medium brown and steel, possibly recolored. No roughness, just trivial contact marks. Late die state with obvious swelling on both sides, strongest on the obverse. The date is strong and the legends are readable. Weight 141.7 grains.
