LOT 437 1830 N-4 R2 Large Letters EF45. Sharpness closer to mint state but this cent was dipped long ago and has retoned glossy chocolate and steel brown with underlying very faded red in protected areas. There are two tiny spots of fine carbon at star 6, a puff of darker steel toning over the hair bun, and a small spot of lighter toning off the end of the wreath stem. E-MDS, Grellman state b, with die cracks on both sides.

SHARPLY STRUCK 1830 N-6 MEDIUM LETTERS
LOT 438 1830 N-6 R4 Medium Letters VF25. Sharpness EF40 but the fields and protected areas are covered with very fine roughness under slightly glossy medium brown toning that blends to darker steel and olive brown in protected areas. No verdigris but there are a few scratches on the cheek and jaw, all blended perfectly into the toning. Very sharply struck with full radials in all the stars and crisp details in the hair and wreath. Best strike I have seen on this variety in over 60 years. Just too bad the surfaces aren’t perfect. M-LDS, Grellman state b, with a fine die crack from the bust tip into the field but not reaching the dentils.
