1794 Large Cent Price List

EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

Lot 136 1794 S-65 R-1 CC#1 PCGS MS63+BN. Frosty light steel brown and tan with faded mint red in protected areas on both sides. Lustrous and attractive with only a few trivial defects. The notable marks are a pair of thin planchet voids near the dentils before the neck, a puff of darker toning in the wreath under the D in UNITED, and a spot over that T. LDS, Heck die state 9, Breen state IX, with many die cracks and extensive spalling (flaking of metal off the die), especially on the reverse. The reverse die was a mess at this point, and this example shows that condition to great effect. Not seen by Noyes or Bland, but the finest example in the Noyes and Bland census lists is graded MS60, and we believe this example is the superior piece based on a photo comparison. 35654.63+/40246168 $ 42,500 Ex; Heritage Auctions 4/2013:4115 - Walter J.
