1794 Large Cent Price List

1794 LARGE CENTS FIXED PRICE LIST

Lot 52 1794 S-33 R-5+ Wheelspoke Rev PCGS Fine Details (Environmental Damage). A two tone example with golden tan on the devices and deeper olive on the fields with fien granularity on the surfaces. The central reverse is weak as is usual due to bulging from the various die breaks that earn this variety its “Wheelspoke” distinction. Breen Die State VI with six reverse die cracks. 35564.97/38424646 $ 18,500 Ex; William E. Delude Sr. 9/1976 - Richard H. Wright 3/1977 via Jack Collins - John D. Wright 3/1977 - Daniel W. Lot 53 1794 S-34 R-5+ CC#3 PCGS AU Details (Corrosion Removed). Lightly cleaned and retoned, now an attractive frosty light chocolate brown blended with a hint of reddish brown toning in the hair under the cap and at TAT in STATES. There are traces of extremely fine porosity in the field under the cap, otherwies nice surfaces. The best identifying marks are a tiny planchet chip between the bottoms of the 7 & 9 in the date and a rim bruise at the M in AMERICA. E-MDS, Heck die state 3 early, Breen state II. The die crack from the left top of the L to the cap is light but visible. Sharply struck with nice eye appeal in spite of the minor distractions. There is no evidence of tooling to remove corrosion, just cleaning and recoloring. Clearly sharper than the Husak-Boka VF30 which was considered the finest available to collectors outside the VF35 impounded in the American Numismatic Society collection. Graded net VF25 and CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #62319. This is the Heck plate coin for the die state in his 2022 die state reference. An important, high condition census example of this rare variety, certainly one of the finest available outside the ANS Museum. Discovered in 2010 unattributed in an inherited collection. 35567.94/43023840 $ 42,000 Ex; Linda Schuster, M&G Auctions/Goldbergs 1/31/2011:775 - Walter J. Husak Collection
