2024 EAC Sale

INDIANAPOLIS EAC 2024 OFF-CENTER S-76B

LOT 219 1795 S-76b R1 Thin Planchet with Plain Edge VF20. Sharpness VF30 but covered with extremely fine roughness under a mostly glossy mix of chocolate and olive brown. No verdigris, and the only mark is a hairline scratch in the field under LIBER. M-LDS with subtle swelling in the obverse fields. Struck 10% off center to K-5. The bottom of the date and TES OF are tight to the edge but everything remains clear.

LOT 220 1795 S-77 R3 Plain Edge F15+. Choice glossy medium brown blending to medium chocolate brown in the fields and protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and this cent is choice, void of any notable defects. M-LDS, Breen state V, with fine die cracks on the reverse and minor swelling on the reverse, strongest at ME in AMERICA. Graded VF20 by Del Bland and Jack Robinson. It’s very close.

Ex Norman Pullen-Denis W. Loring 10/25/1982-Jack H. Robinson, Superior 1/29/1989:141-Chris McCawley 3/30/1990-Dr. Ralph W. Rucker Collection (includes the Rucker collection envelope)

LOT 221 1796 S-81 R3 Liberty Cap PCGS graded VF35. Very attractive glossy light chocolate brown with frosty lighter brown in protected areas. Smooth except for some tiny planchet chips in the center of the reverse and a thin fissure through the E in CENT, all as struck. The only notable sign of contact is a small rim bruise at the top of the cap. MDS, Breen state II early, with a very fine die crack arcing from the right top of the Y onto the nose before the eye. The reverse die has not been lapped and the repunching on the first 0 in the denominator is clear. Breen apparently did not know the crack occurred first. The date is bold and the legends are strong except for the usual weakness on CENT and the ribbon bows. The reverse is rotated 50 degrees CCW relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. Our grade is VF25. 1401.35/12504327
