 SHARP S-13 LIBERTY CAP

LOT 184 1793 S-13 R4- Liberty Cap F15. Sharpness VF30 but covered with fine roughness under rather glossy olive brown and chocolate toning. The highpoints are a lighter shade of brown. There are two parallel planchet voids on the face and another very thin one from the T in UNITED to the first A in AMERICA (all as minted). The fissure on the reverse is exactly parallel with the two on the obverse, so it appears these flaws were stress lines in the rolled copper. The only contact marks are a tiny rim nick at the second S in STATES and a barely visible rim bruise left of the fraction. EDS, Breen state I, with no trace of swelling at NT in CENT. Nicely centered with strong border beads around both sides. The date and legends are bold and the eye appeal of this cent is rather nice in spite of the obvious defects. Ex Chris McCawley & Tony Terranova 6/24/2009-Daniel W. Holmes, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 9/6/2009:23-the Del Rio Collection S-13 WITH PLANCHET CLIP

LOT 185 1793 S-13 R4- Liberty Cap AG3+. Glossy light to medium chocolate brown and steel. Smooth with minor marks including a dull nick left of the date, a very light scuff on the top of the head, and some small planchet flakes on the lower right part of the reverse (as struck). The date is clear, LIBERTY is strong, and most of the legend on the reverse is visible. There is a rather large end-of-strip planchet clip on the right side of the obverse that affects much of AMERICA on the reverse.
